Ladies Day Out

Even though it is the time of the year that I should be sitting at home inside studying and not going out drinking and to social events, reading books that don't relate to my uni subjects or watching Netflix for 3 hours. Should be minimising my hours at work for a couple of weeks and not sit on my computer writing blog posts. I seem to go against this and do the complete opposite anyway!

Once such exception was the weekend that has just passed. Ladies Day at the races was so much fun I am so glad that even though the water was horrible and it rained the entire day I still went out and had a fabulous time.

Ladies day was an excuse to get dressed up, (for most women) put some ridiculous looking fascinator on your head and call it stylish, drink copious amounts of champagne/wine/any alcohol being served, bet on horses and basically just socialise with all the other women around you. I don't participate in all of this (mostly I just enjoy dressing up and drinking alcohol) but it was definitely a good day. One to remember is probably how I am going to choose how to quote it.

Later the same night I was also invited to go to a club and I almost didn't go. I got home after a long day at the races, put my pyjamas on, ate some food and settled down and started even laying singstar with the fam??? (Side note: I use the term fam to include those who are not actually family, but are close enough they may as well be). But I decided to put more make up on, change my clothes and go back out because in all honesty how many good stories do people have that they remember that went like this "well I was tired so I stayed at home that night....." No.

Turns out, clubbing was a crazy idea. There were barely any people in the clubs compared to what I remember a few months ago? (maybe the weather had something to do with this). The smartest ideas I had all night were:

  1. Leave early enough to catch the last train home of the night so we didn't need to catch a bus
  2. Get popcorn chicken and chips on the way to the train
Turns out as smart as those ideas were, number 1 turned out to be a joke and number 2 didn't even happen. Instead we walked out the club and saw the rain. I don't think I have ever seen it rain harder than it did that night when Kieran and I left the club. Of course it was uphill to get back to the train station and although we ran just to get inside quicker (it was freezing in the rain), it really did no good. When we got to the train station it looked like we had gone swimming. Tipping water out of our shoes, wringing out shirts out and me tying my hair up just so it wouldn't stick to my face. Getting home is always something I dread, but after sitting in sticky wet clothes creating a puddle around us on an air-conditioned train for 50 minutes home freezing cold and hungry, I do not want to experience that again.

Anyway, in typical fashion I will end this post by sharing some of the photos we took that day at the races.

Race Day

This weekend just gone I was excited to (once again) try something new that I had never done before. It was my beautiful mother's 40th birthday and she wanted the family and some friends to go to the races with her. I was excited because it was something that I had been wanting to do for a while but just never really had been presented with the opportunity. So this was perfect.

There is a few different racecourses nearish to where I live and it was one of the race days of the spring carnival!

I can quite happily say that I enjoyed all aspects of 'The Races' at Royal Randwick racecourse. The fashion, the atmosphere, drinking champagne and cheering on with everyone else. Only complaint I could possibly have was the food was not very good (but then again that wasn't even important).

I saw so many beautiful dresses on girls I will admit I was pretty jealous. All in all it was a wonderful day. There was money won (and lost) on gambling and sure some of us may have had a little too much champagne and taken a few too many photos (when is that ever a real problem though??) but it was most defiantly a lot of fun and I can not wait until I get to do this again!

My lovely boyfriend and I at the start of the day
Happy birthday to my beautiful mother who we celebrated turning 40 (don't worry I will continue telling everyone it was 25)

Weddings are Beautiful

I honestly feel like I am the only person who hasn't attended a wedding as an adult. I'm secretly jealous of everyone who has friends old enough to be getting married, cousins/aunts/uncles that are going to get married. I've been to two weddings in my life, but I was 3 and 10 so that barely counts. I wanted the fun that comes with picking out your dress and then getting ready. I wanted to be able to celebrate and enjoy that special day with everyone.

So, I still don't have friends who are getting married. But luckily my boyfriend does :)
The other day, we attended a wedding for one of his good mates and I honestly had so much fun. The wedding was incredible and the bride was beautiful.
Blinded by the sunlight & my heels sunk halfway into the grass, but it was still all good
Kieran and I (well probably me a lot more than him) enjoyed getting ready. He cleans up nice, I might add.
Polaroids are fun & now I really want one
I must say, the biggest disappointment of the day was that I barely got any photos on my phone (and haven't been able to locate all of the photos that were taken on other phones sadly). I got a few nice photos though, so I just really wanted to share them here, along with my congratulations to the new couple. It really was a beautiful day.

The 'cool table' as Kieran called it all night
I was very happy with what I wore as it was super comfortable and looked pretty good. My dress was from the Iconic and is the brand Lipsy and the shoes I wore to the ceremony (white heels) were also from the Iconic. I changed shoes for the reception (more comfort for dancing) and they were a pair of nude/pink heels from Forever New that I bought many years ago for my Year 10 formal. I definitely have gotten some wear out of those haha.

Sisters

Having a sister is a wonderful thing. Your very own bestfriend/hair stylist/ make up artist/ partner in crime (and way way more) from the beginning. You may hate her at times but you will always love her.

I'm (un)lucky enough to have a little sister of my very own.

I used to get annoyed when she would copy everything that I say/ do/ like/ wanted/ bought but as my mother ever so kindly pointed out all these years, 'imitation is the highest form of flattery'.

I think you love playing with toys together when you're young (barbies and polly pockets for us) and playing other silly little games (doctors, teachers and spies were our favourites). Then you get to that age where all you can possibly do is fight with each other. You hate each other more than you like each other and you can't stand to share anything let alone talk to each other sometimes.

I am happily past that age now (for the most part) and get to enjoy all the perks that come with having a sister again.

You want someone to paint your nails?
Drive you to the train station to go clubbing?
Cook dinner with?
Go out to random places to get food because you're hungry?
Fashion advice?
Need to borrow an outfit?
Wondering if your hair looks good today?
Have the sudden urge to go shopping and don't want to go alone?
Need help fake tanning the middle of your back?
Want to go on a maccas run but don't want to go alone?
Need someone to exercise with you?
Need someone to hang out with just so you don't feel lonely?

All of the above for me are reasons why I actually love having a sister. As much as she annoys the hell out of me, I know I will always have someone there to do these things with me and help me out when I need it. Best part is, we live in the same house so there is literally next to no effort to do all of these things together. No need to make the same effort to hang out with a friend and you can be mean to each other and know that at the end of the day you will always have each others backs.

I appreciate having a sister (but I'm still glad I'm the older one).

Updates

So life has been pretty crazy lately. All I have seemed to be doing is working and now I'm back at university for a new semester, the stress really seems to be piling on.

Even though life is getting crazy busy again (well a different kind of busy than it has been during holidays) I am happy to say that I am at least feeling better now and want to get back into the swing of things.

Regular routine is back! This semester I am going to be at university twice a week for three classes and I am taking a fourth unit online (only offer, but works out pretty well for me in the end anyway!) I am aiming to work about 5 times a week, workout 5-6 times a week and have regular blog posts (hopefully all about something interesting) online for you all to read :-)

I like keeping busy and having such a huge variety of things to do (and begin able to spend time with my beautiful friends) makes me happy!

I have so many exciting adventures coming up in the next few months because this half of the year is defiantly the busiest for me!

I will have a new post up soon, just wanted to quickly update you all on life and let everyone know I have a smile on my face again. Here's some happy photos to end my blog to prove that :) Also want to say how happy I am that us folk down here in Australia are in our last month of Winter! I am definitely way way too excited for it to be Summer again.

City of Sydney

Hey everyone!

So yesterday I actually left my house to do something other than work, visit my boyfriend or go to the local shopping centres! I visited the city and it was such a beautiful winter day. The sun was shinning and it was lovely out in the sun. I think Winter is my favourite time to visit the city (providing it is a sunny day) because the weather is cool enough for you to enjoy sitting in the sun by the harbour and there's just something about winter sunshine that I love.

One of my friends suggested that we go into the city to the big book store (I'm an obsessed book freak) and I though it was just such a great idea. Along with the book store we also looked in all the shops at clothes that we wish we could buy and ate lunch by the water.

We started the day off by looking in the Victoria's Secret store in the Queen Victoria Building and I was severely disappointed by it's small size and lack of anything being sold there. Times like this I wish I lived in America so I had the luxury (?) of being able to shop at Victoria's Secret. The one in Sydney only sells fragrances, a few bags and a small collection of underwear. I want the bras and most of all I just want their yoga pants and sweaters. One day, is all I have to remind myself, I'll go to America and be able to shop at Victoria's Secret properly. I could buy it all online, but there's no fun in that (for this) to me because I just want to shop in store.

We went to various other shops during the day including Topshop and Sportsgirl and a lot of others that I can't even remember. So basically right now I am obsessed with those big floppy felt hats (I have no idea what they are actually called) and everywhere we went in the city that day we saw girls wearing them! I'd ordered a black one in the mail two weeks ago and I was still waiting for it to arrive so I was quite disappointed everyone else had one and I didn't :-(

must always awkwardly selfie in shops with good mirrors
After shopping, we made our way to the bookstore. At first I was slightly disappointed because I thought it would be multiple levels, but as we wandered around the store I was less disappointed because I realised it spread out quite far and was large for a bookstore, considering so many I know of have had to shut down due to lack of business now. I enjoy books. If someone gives me a good book and I get into it, I'll sit there all day and read it until I'm done. It doesn't matter how tired I am, I'll read until either
        a) the book is finished
        b) I fall asleep with the book in my hand
But it's probably been a pretty even mixture between the two outcomes when I read. The stand out books that this has happened to me with probably includes:

  1. The Harry Potter Series- I read these when I was like 8/9/10 years old (I think) and these are the initial books that sparked my love for reading. I would stay up all night reading and I remember my mum would always have to come into my room and tell me to turn my light off and go to sleep because it was too late to be reading
  2. The Hunger Games- I didn't get into these books until after the first movie had come out and I watched the first movie and I decided I had to read the books. After I started I couldn't put them down. I read all three books in three days because I just had to know what happened.
  3. Looking for Alaska- This is probably my favourite John Green book and I couldn't put it down until I knew how the story ended. I probably cried for a while after finishing it too
  4. Leaving Paradise- a recent addition to my collection by Simone Elkeles and I fell in love with this book after a chapter. I couldn't put it down all day and by that night (however late it may have been) I was done reading and jumping online to order the next book in the series.
So as anyone can tell by what I've shared so far, I love books. I will read anything anyone recommends me, but I think my 'type' of book is more "young adult, romance, main character goes through struggle to find themselves". I enjoy these the most. I'm currently reading 'It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini' for anyone who might be interested. I'm nearly finished it and I have enjoyed it.

In the bookstore we looked at all types of books, from the books that I love, to the business and marketing books (that is what we both study at University together), books on tattoos, fashion, inspiration and motivation and yes even the "relationship" books. I'm not sure why they call the "relationship books" that because they are all about sex. But well I enjoyed the bookstore.

After shopping (a better description is probably a lack of shopping and more window shopping) and the bookstore, we walked down to Darling Harbour and ate Maccas by the water. It was such a beautiful day out there in the winter sunshine, there was no way we were going to eat inside. It was so peaceful (aside from the noise of many other busy city goers and children- due to the school holidays). We got to sit around and talk and eat and admire the beauty of the city. I enjoy the buildings too, not only the harbour and the landmarks. I probably get my love of buildings from my mum as she designs houses for a living.

Overall I would have to say I had such a lovely day out in the city and I'm glad the day was kind to us. It felt like a long train (and bus ride too home for me), but it was worth it.

Thank you all for reading,
♡ Stelle
